Hurricane Sandy Relief Collection

Our most heartfelt condolances go out to those who are affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. This was a storm of nearly unprescendented magnitude in the areas it struck, and the recovery efforts are just now beginning. It will take billions of dollars and countless hours of manpower to restore life to the way it was before the storm.

As a result of such loss, we have decided to collect an offering this Sunday, November 4, to aid in the relief of Hurricane Sandy. This donation will be distributed through Episcopal Relief & Development.

We are a student ministry, not a traditional parish, and this affects how much monetary support we can afford as individuals. With this in mind, however, we urge you to give as you are able to help those in need. Consider giving up those few cups of coffee to help those who have lost so much more than we.

In all this I have given you an example that by such work we must support the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, for he himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

EUC’s Second Annual Mission Trip to Mountain T.O.P. in Tennessee

On April 28th, members of the Episcopal University Center (EUC) traveled to the Cumberland Mountains to participate in a week-long ministry at Mountain T.O.P. (Tennessee Outreach Project).   This was Ruge Hall's third annual trip to work with the interdenominational, non-profit Christian Mission that is dedicated to providing physical, spiritual, and emotional support to disadvantaged families in this poverty-stricken rural area.  This year, the Episconoles worked on two projects: building a deck for a Vietnam War veteran who had always wanted one; and construction of a pavilion to house a new farmer’s market where local farmers and craftsmen can sell their goods.  It was a rewarding experience for everyone in the EUC contingent who, in addition to serving the needs of the Appalachian folks, grew in spirituality and fellowship with one another. Evenings were spent roasting marshmallows around campfires or swapping stories within the rustic cabin. Before returning home, the group was able to visit beautiful Sewanee, TN and tour its renowned Episcopal seminary, including several stunning cathedrals.  As we prepared to head home, we all agreed that we were glad to have been able to do something to help those living near Mountain T.O.P.

Ruge Hall's 80th Anniversary Celebration

Father Mike Speaking About His Ministry at Ruge HallOn April 14th in commemoration of Ruge Hall’s eight decades in operation, the Episconoles held an open house to welcome the surrounding community into the Episcopal University Center (EUC).  Alumni of all ages attended to make the afternoon a great success.  The event featured a variety of hors d'oeuvres provided by Lou Armesto’s Fit-to-Eat Catering, along with a hymnal serenade by Ruge Hall's choir.  The highlight of the day’s festivities centered on two former EUC congregants who reminisced on their days at the Center. Past and current parishioners mingled with first-time visitors, making everyone feel welcome.  This celebration exemplifies the intent of the Episconoles to expand Ruge Hall’s presence on campus and in the community, and its members look forward to improving the EUC's ministry with every coming anniversary.
